Your purchase of the 2021 List:
- Provides you with a list of 31 pet food manufacturers compiled and trusted by an experienced (since 2006) pet food consumer advocate. No company pays a fee to be considered or to be included on the List; they are selected solely on their use of quality food ingredients, nutritional standards and safety procedures (testing).
- Supports pet food consumer advocacy. The FDA allows pet feeds (labeled as cat food and dog food) to violate federal law. Every US state allows pet feed to violate state laws. And no regulatory authority requires pet feeds to be transparent with pet owners disclosing their use of illegal, waste ingredients. Since 2006 we have been battling regulatory authorities on these and many other concerns.
- Supports a different pet non-profit each month throughout the year. 10% of all sales will be donated to a different pet non-profit each month. To see which non-profit is benefiting from your purchase this month, Click Here.
The List is offered at various prices to allow for various levels of support to the pet food consumer advocacy work of Susan Thixton and TruthaboutPetFood.com. The document is the same no matter what price you purchase at.
- The List is not an endorsement of any pet food. It is a 'list' of pet foods that I (Susan Thixton) trust to give to my own pets. The pet foods were selected from detailed information and verification to quality of ingredients that was provided by each company considered. Unfortunately, we can't guarantee pet owners that any of these pet foods won't be recalled in the future - that is beyond our control. We can guarantee that we verified quality of ingredients used in each pet food on the 2021 List (and verified claims of organic ingredients and meats sourced from humanely raised animals).
- No pet food company pays to be on The List. I do not receive money from pet food companies – Susan Thixton, TruthaboutPetFood.com and AssociationforTruthinPetFood.com is 100% consumer supported.
- These pet foods can be purchased from quality independent pet foods stores, and/or directly from the manufacturer, and some are available in larger retail. Each manufacturer page in the List provides information on their specific distribution.
- Most pet foods on the 2021 List are available only in the US. 7 manufacturers sell in Canada, 2 offer limited international distribution.
- The 2021 List contains 31 different pet food manufacturers; 17 companies selling cat food, 30 companies selling dog food. 16 manufacturers provide cooked pet foods, 15 manufacturers provide raw pet foods, 7 provide freeze dried or dehydrated, 2 provide kibble, and 1 provides canned pet food.

Great and necessary

The work made with the list is just amazing. I was waiting to buy the list since last year. Unfortunately in my country there’s no one of the list food. I’m from Brazil and the better option we have here is N&D farmina pet food. I’d really like to know what Susan think about this food. I’ll keep dreaming of the day one of the list come to my country.

Its is a great tool to stay informed and finding healthy foods for our four legged companions. We switched to Open Farm after reading the recommendations.

Susan is tenacious about her research on quality foods to feed our pets. She does alll of the hard work with very high standards to help me/us able to evaluate what the best choice is for our individual needs , values and budget. I get this every year because anything can change and I always want to be updated and aware. Thank you Susan! You do an amazing job keeping us abreast of issues new and old and your passion around healthy feeding and care of our babies is superb!

This is the third year that I've purchased this list. It makes my dog food shopping so much simpler as I feel I can really trust the research. Before I knew about the list I used to try to figure out what was good on my own, but with just limited information. I keep a copy of it saved to my smartphone so that when I'm at my favorite high end pet food store, if they are out of what Dazzle usually eats I can see what else is safe. Also I travel around the country and different areas have different foods, so it helps me a lot when I relocate.

Excellent Guide for Purchasing High Quality Pet Food

I purchase this List every couple of years or so, just so I can keep abreast of the high quality pet foods that are available. I have been feeding one of the foods recommended (Raised Right) for a year now and recently purchased the 2021 List so that I can add additional high quality food to my dogs' diets. I appreciate the fact that a variety of foods are recommended (not just raw diets) to suit every type of digestion. Susan performs the majority of the work for all of us. Thanks!

I was blown away when I saw the amount of work that Susan put into creating the 2021 list! I remember how impressed I was with her 2020 list but this is just incredible! She covers all aspects of the pet food brands she's recommending , every detail is gone over in depth from source to finished product including her experience with the transparency and integrity of the companies she's reviewing. To offer this on a sliding scale and make it available to everyone is a huge gift to us all! Please get this so you can support her groundbreaking work in defense of our beloved pets and get all the information you'll ever need
to feed them the highest quality food available anywhere!!
