There is no difference in The List, no matter what price you purchase at.
It is offered at various prices to allow for various levels of support to the pet food consumer advocacy work
of Susan Thixton and TruthaboutPetFood.com.
This is a digital product delivered via email after purchase. Please read the detailed information below about The List before purchase – no refunds for digital products.

- The List is not an endorsement of any pet food. It is a 'list' of pet foods that I would trust to give to my pets. The pet foods were chosen after detailed information and verification to quality of ingredients was provided. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that any of these pet foods won't be recalled in the future.
- No pet food company pays to be on The List. I do not receive money from pet food companies – Susan Thixton, TruthaboutPetFood.com and AssociationforTruthinPetFood.com is 100% consumer supported.
- You won’t find any of these pet foods in Big Box pet food or Big Box retail stores. These pet foods can be purchased from quality independent pet foods stores and directly from the manufacturer.
- All pet foods on the 2019 List - excluding one - are available only in the US. One pet food is available exclusively in Canada with hopes to export to US in 2019.
The 2019 List includes 19 dog foods and 12 cat foods - a total of 21 different pet food companies. There are 14 cooked-style pet foods, 8 raw-style pet foods, 5 dehydrated or freeze dried-style pet foods, and 1 kibble pet food (some companies make multiple styles of pet food).

I am so happy that there is a list like this out there. It is very helpful to see all the high quality foods that are recommended for pets and what goes into each brand. I like the fact that each brand is reviewed based on multiple different components. I really appreciate the time that is taken into researching these foods and verifying the claims and documentation. I also enjoyed seeing a statement from each company on what they had to say about their foods. It really helped show which brands are proud of their foods and are really trying to provide better quality foods for pet owners.
Included on the list, I really like seeing the breakdown of each brand: which ones are human grade ingredients, human grade manufactured, which ones used meats from humanely certified animals, and the cost breakdown per day.
The only thing I would say I wished The List included is if each of the foods on The List are a complete, whole balanced meal, or if any of them should be supplemented with additional food/vitamins/minerals.
Overall, this List has been extremely helpful in learning about the different per foods available and what foods I want to be feeding my pets. I have done a lot of research on pet foods lately, and a lot of these brands I had never seen or heard of before.
Thank you for your work and research into pet foods and providing people with something like this. It is wonderful.

I love this list and website. Keeps me informed and up to date. I wish you would review supplements. I would also like to know about "grandmas country naturals " and "raws" foods

I'm so GLAD that a product like this exists. It is so hard to do all the research yourself and even then it is hard to know who to trust. This list breaks it all down for you and is completely transparent. It makes me feel better that a product like his exists and I encourage you to get this for your own knowledge and to help support this great organization.

Lack of Kibble review
Posted by Unknown on 15th Feb 2019
I find the list useful and do buy some of the canned brands recommended. Unfortunately, I cannot feed my two big dogs just canned or cooked, which I prepare for them. It would be helpful if some kibble foods were reviewed also.
Only 2 for Canada

I would love a few more selections for products in Canada. There is a fairly large population in Canada and we love our pets. Next year it would be great to add a few more. Also if there could be more selection of canned foods for dogs and cats.

Thought the list would include kibble/dry dog food and also include any not recommended. No store around me sells these off brands. Even if they did, I couldn't afford to feed 2 60lb cattle dogs!
Found perfect food for my finicky little guy!

This is the 2nd year I purchased this List. It has been so helpful. I found foods that I had never heard of and/or foods I was not sure of until reading the List. It is so helpful and has helped us so much with one of my 2 dogs who hates everything. I found a food he loves. And with the List, I felt better about my choice for him! Thank you for helping me!
Lack of kibble food
Posted by Unknown on 7th Feb 2019
It's all wet/raw food, was hoping that the kibble reviewed was going to be one that's widely accessible. Would prefer some of the dry kibble to be reviewed (because not all of us can feed our dogs raw 24/7). Overall, I do recommend the list. Thanks

I have used this list as a primary resource for several years, and definitely appreciate the personal effort and criteria Susan uses to create the list. I rescue senior & geriatric dogs, often with eating challenges, and the "List" is my first go-to whenever I need to consider making any food changes. Thank you Susan for providing such valuable and reliable information!
