There is no difference in The List, no matter what price you purchase at.
It is offered at various prices to allow for various levels of support to the pet food consumer advocacy work
of Susan Thixton and TruthaboutPetFood.com.
This is a digital product delivered via email after purchase. Please read the detailed information below about The List before purchase – no refunds for digital products.

- The List is not an endorsement of any pet food. It is a 'list' of pet foods that I would trust to give to my pets. The pet foods were chosen after detailed information and verification to quality of ingredients was provided. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that any of these pet foods won't be recalled in the future.
- No pet food company pays to be on The List. I do not receive money from pet food companies – Susan Thixton, TruthaboutPetFood.com and AssociationforTruthinPetFood.com is 100% consumer supported.
- You won’t find any of these pet foods in Big Box pet food or Big Box retail stores. These pet foods can be purchased from quality independent pet foods stores and directly from the manufacturer.
- All pet foods on the 2019 List - excluding one - are available only in the US. One pet food is available exclusively in Canada with hopes to export to US in 2019.
The 2019 List includes 19 dog foods and 12 cat foods - a total of 21 different pet food companies. There are 14 cooked-style pet foods, 8 raw-style pet foods, 5 dehydrated or freeze dried-style pet foods, and 1 kibble pet food (some companies make multiple styles of pet food).

Open farm cat food
Posted by Suzanne Lalumiere on 11th Oct 2019
I have started feeding my cat
open farm dry and the stews.
My cat likes both but mixed with
Orijen to finish bag
They don't make a freeze dried
which is desirable. I am not comfortable
with frozen raw, though recommended
Not very useful

I have a 90-lb very active young German Shepherd. I can't afford to feed him on the foods reviewed here. Also - human quality ingredients is only part of the picture. There's the issue of GMO foods, pesticide/herbicide residuals, etc. These are not addressed.

Great information but I'm wondering if instinct frozen raw for cats is better. The cans will be so much easier but exspensive. I also use primal raw freeze dried.
Update!!! Very excited!!

Ok, I have a update on the "List"! Open Farms was the kibble that I had passed on because of the ingredients. I went back to the website because I still was not happy with any kibble I coyfind and they have introduced a senior kibble that I am going to buy.! They have changed the selenium to the more natural yeast! Yeah, and even though it still has the ingredients that have been implemented in heart problems they have added taurine and the other clean ingredients make up for it. I have 3 Seniors and one 2 year old. It says that I can also use it for her so I will contact them to make sure but I just wanted other people to go back and look at the new kibble to see if it works for them! Thank you Susan, if not for the "List" I never would have found this!!
wealth of information!

Just found this site! I joined for not just the list but the info on everything. I ended up not going with any of the foods. I have 4 dogs and they are all too expensive except the kibble. I wish I could use it but it has 3 of the ingredients that are tied to the heart problems. I believe that those ingredients block the taurine making it unusable to the dogs. At that point I still have to supplement without food. Not worth the cost of it. I will still support you because I believe in what your doing and really appreciate it. Thank you
Great Alternative to Raw
Posted by Ron Baran on 23rd Sep 2019
Donated to the cause. I didn't just for this list, because anyone who takes the time to give us pet owners viable information is great. I was really hoping for some dry product on this list. Mostly raw diet, which 1. Very expensive 2. Time consuming. 3. Possible problems with raw food. Thanks for your time

Susan works very hard to make sure we know the truth of pet food and this list is the proof in the pudding to that fact! My only honest complaint is that you can't back order the list of previous years so I can't compare and contrast of how pet food is changing every year but I do agree with her statement that she can say why a company is listed versus why they are not.

This list is very important. So glad i found it. I will find the right wet cat food now that i have the list. It is very scary out in the pet food world (without the list) when nothing matters except the almighty $, Thank you Susan for all your HARD WORK and DEDICATION for our precious pets.

Wish I knew More

This is a great list and I am happy the food I use is on it (Answers) I occasionally use primal also. I think the list should include the companies that completed the questionnaire but did not make the list. We have no way of knowing if a company was even considered as it is impossible to send the questionnaire to everyone. Otherwise very informative. thank you
